Well I am home in Christchurch for a couple of days. I flew up to Auckland on Thursday night and got a ride to The Mount on Friday….this is where the women’s Clean and Clear 6 star competition was held…….the first day of competition was 0.5 metre swell if that….. I managed to get through my first heat with a couple of tiny waves that I caught…….the next day I happened to be in the first 1/4 final of the day which started at 8.am the waves where extremely difficult to ride as it was super low tide small and closing out……mmmm not my favourite wave that’s for sure……it was disappointing as I knew later in the day the swell was predicted to rise with the incoming tide………o well that is competitions for you…..you have to just give everything a go…….I gave it my best to find a ridable wave but no luck came my way that day…..I caught a couple of waves that only allowed me to get a quick half turn in……I was just hoping a wave would come my way as the time ticked on…….unfortunately nothing came my way!!
Surfing competitions can be very frustrating in small unridable waves because all you want to do is show off your surfing!!!
Sure enough later in the day with the incoming tide the waves got to about a metre in size and went to a better shape that had a face to ride and do turns………curl magazine told me they got a few photos of me free surfing and i managed to do a few interviews whilst i was in the mount. clean and clear where there and the MTV crew interviewed me for a possible advert…
Raglan competition is next week so i am praying for some waves so i can show my stuff off
Just got back from an epic week down in the states with Anthony Leffelaar and NZ snowboarder Magazine senior photographer Greg Roebuck. In one week we got every type of weather, pouring rain to perfect calm blue sky to blizzard snow and 2 foot of fresh. We made the most of very random weather and managed to pull together heaps of very different shots including sick pillow lines, back bountry booters, construction side window gaps, cliffs, river gaps, skate park jibbing and of course token lifestyle shots. Greg is the best photographer as long as he has a small stash at all times. If you ever go on a shoot with him I’d recommend getting hold of some and keeping it until he runs out. Then you’ll be guaranteed banging shots.

Ants and I got straight back to Whistler and competed in the “Showcase Showdown” pipestyle contest. Definitely the most unique contest I’ve ever seen. It consists of 2 huge hips into a superpipe. Straight after a pipe hit is 2 “C” boxes up opposite walls of the pipe followed by 3 rails, down bar, flat-down-flat box and a huge flat box-gap-downbox. It’s one of the 4 biggest comps on the Canadain calendar with $25,000 in cash. It was awesome to session the course and the after party was banging. NZa??s Jake Koia killed it coming in second place.

Whistler is dumping snow again making some sick powder days. Got a new axle on the jeep so it up and running smooth again. To support my snowboard addiction I’ve started coaching for a Japanese freestyle athele program ( www.csbawhistler.com) and Pro Ride Snowboard Camp (www.pro-ride.com). Lisa is also coaching for Pro Ride and Rad Galz ( www.radgalz.com)
Check back soon.

Heres some pics of me with the Dew, which has traveled pretty far with me!

I only saw one in Switzerland, so picked it up and been keeping it handy, got some more pics on the way! I’m in Paris having a awesome time, since I’m not snowboarding and representing, this was the next best thing! WORD!
Cheers, Jenna
Hey wot up,
Made it to Mayrhofen, Austria. Trip was a bit draining as I had to sleep in the Airport at Denver for a night as I could only get a ride the night before and I wasn’t going to refuse it as the highway out of Breck had been closed for the day and it only opened that evening and it was still dumping.

Good to see all the snow but sucked I was leaving! Woke up to masses of people all around me checking in for flights, looked at my watch and thought I was running late but figured out I was an hour early only after I’d checked in. Better early than late I guess and I had time to get Mc D’s mmmmmmmmmmmm! Stop over in LA then off to Frankfurt, then to Innsbruck then I had to find a couple of trains to Mayrhofen which was easier than I thought which is always good! Here with Mark Anderson and Adam Shaw which will be good. Got to check out the hill today….massive! So many possibilities but lacking snow at the moment.

I was lucky enough to catch up with Abe and Shem Raffles who are travelling through Europe documenting a wide range of different events for a TV series called Winter Diaries that is going to air in July. They took Adam and I to Flachenwinklm, which is a resort an hour outside of Salzburg. Turned out to be awesome! They have epic terrain, rad park and they even have a rad skate set up half way up the hill. A couple of perfect mini ramps with extensions and spin transfers! Anyway’s keep an eye out for the show and check it out.

Been in Breckenridge for almost 4 weeks now, the snow has been kinda average but in the last week it has got a bit better. Been filming with reason films for the last 10 days or so. Finding it pretty hard to get things done as we haven’t got a car over here. Car, drop in ramp and crew are key for hitting street rails around here. At least we know for next time. We’ve had to search around for a few different things to do but its been pretty fun and it will make the vid more interesting hopefully!
Anyway’s i’m off to Austria on sunday to meet up with Mark Anderson and Adam shaw so I’ll let you know how that goes! Not too much snow there at the moment but should be fun anyway.

So last week I woke up on Thursday morning after riding Tuesday at Heavenly and Wednesday at Sierra and decided it was time for a change of scenery. So Bevan, Mez and I hired a car and made the 3 hour drive south to Mammoth. It turned out to be a great move as we arrived to the very unfamiliar sight of snow dumping down in the town. We had a few drinks and headed to bed. We woke on the Saturday morning to 10inches of fresh and it was still dumping. We had an amazing day riding trees, ollieing anything in sight including many trees and stalling on some of the larger stumps and logs. We were drenched by the end of the day but we had ridden all over the mountain – checked out the parks – they were super fun; amazing jumps and some unique rails including some large pipes to both hit as down rails and as stalls and a million other items of varying size and shape. We only took a couple of runs out of the pow to check them out but the jump line in the south park was heaps of fun – they were an amazing shape; 4 jumps in a row and the speed was just so easy to guess I never missed a sweet spot the whole time. The main park jumps werena??t really an option due to the fact it was still dumping. We were soaked through by the end of the day but had heaps of fun shredding with new friends and catching up with some old ones.
Day2 in mammoth was a unique one I rode solo most of the day as the others werena??t prepared to battle the storm that was dumping down on the mountain. Mammoth really needed the snow so no one was complaining but it was rather wet I must say and the wind made for a really cold day – luckily I had popped in to the office and picked up some cool new Grenade gloves the previous day as I had left mine in Tahoe. But yeah rode really deep powder that was a little heavy and got drenched through to the bone, literally the wettest I have ever been on a ski field. I checked the report the following morning and they had received 30inches throughout the day – I am sure that most of that was absorbed into my puffer jacket and pants.
With the forecast similar for the next day we headed back to Tahoe stopping in Carson on the way for Taco Bell and of course the mandatory Mountain Dew Code Red. So Sunday was a fun powder day for me – Bevan decided to compete in a USASA comp which was fun for him as he ended up winning the Pro Men Division – I kind of wish I had done it but I leave here in just over a week and the main draw card for the event was qualifying for Nationals which I am not here for but that left the morning open to go shred powder and that was an awesome first powder day in Tahoe – good times, got to hit a rather large jump off a rock with about a 35ft gap to the landing – good fun but scary for sure with the bumpiest run in I have hit in a while. Got to drop a bunch of cliffs I had been eying up for the last month and was beginning to think I wouldna??t get to hit at all.
Monday and Tuesday were both really fun days for me at Sierra but ended a little bitter with me breaking edges both days. I broke my edge doing a frontboard some way on a downrail – I just spun round a little too early and hit the nose in. Then today I was riding my friends board loving life on the new jump line that Sierra has, stomping a bunch of stalefish frontside sevens which I had learnt the day before and I tried to get switch back 5 tail grab frontside seven in a line but couldna??t quite get the tail front seven hopefully I will learn those and frontside 9’s tomorrow. Anyway at about 3:50 when a bunch of the park features were already shut I hit the tail of my board doing a frontboard pretzel on the stair feature down rail – so gutted another $20 down the drain but oh well. Tomorrow I will ride my big board and stay away from the evil edge breaking rails and hit a bunch of powder and trees which we sessioned today. I think on Friday and during the weekend the plan is to go get some photos.
So one week of riding left and I have a bunch of tricks that I still want to learn but I am stoked with how everything has gone so far
Righty o team until next time, have fun wherever you are in the world, I certainly will be in Tahoe then Ia??ll be back home to watch the Wakeboard Nationals in Blenheim straight from the airport.
Yo whats happnin New Zealand
Whistler’s had a no snow patch for the last couple of weeks but the park riding’s been epic. We definitely have the best park in the world at the moment. The black park is rocking a nice 80 footer. Mountain Dew rider Shawn White has been spotted ripping the pipe and the big booters. Our studio apartment has been pretty slammed with NZ ripper and lady killer Ants Leffelaar crashing on the couch. Ants and I are heading to the states on Wednesday to shoot some photos and vid at Mt Baker. It just started dumping again today so should be good times.
Hope summer (or winter) is hooking you up with the goods. Don’t forget to grab the first issue of NZ Snowboarder (released 1st May) to check out all the NZ rider coverage from over here.
Peace
Ange has Just arrived back in NZ!! Man its been a few hectic last days, getting all my stuff together……but I’m here….. I few in on saturday at about 11pm…… so I just missed out on competing in the Canterbury Surf Competition! If only i booked my ticket a day earlier!! Well there will be plenty of competitions coming my way soon I’m sure!!
Kaiks has been pumping!! have been surfing Mungamanu for hours today!! Ggetting so many waves, its great to come home to fun waves and get to surf your favourite point break!!
Oh and I got to bring home the best skateboard out!!!…..before I left the Gold Coast I got a Carve board sent to me from Sydney originally made in california……its so sick! Its like surfing but without the wave…..so when its flat i get to surf everyday on my sk8 board. Its designed to improve your surfing and snowboarding! Its totally different to an ordinary skate board! The trucks are spring loaded and super wide so the wheels sit really far appart…….the board can go on crazy angles when you stand on it…… so it is a similar sensation, and you use all the same body positions as carving a wave!…… its fun and great practice……….
