The month of May will surely be over soon and that means ski field openings, ice cream headaches and after dark skate missions a plenty.
On Thursday night coming up the Canterbury Univerisity Boardriders are hosting their Jib the Common Room at the University bar. One of those nights that just has to be seen to be believed! Also, this weekend coming up will see the Kaikoura Cold Water Classic in action. The contest starts on Friday and is most likely out at either Maungamanu or Meatworks on the Kaikoura coast. So check it out if you are procrastinating those end of term assignments or just need an excuse to visit the beautiful Kaikoura. A couple or mates and myself have had some decent days up there at Kahutara and Muanga. So much fun to be had on the points!
The surf around Christchurch has been minimal of late, last week there was some decent North swell for a couple of days which saw Taylor’s Mistake packed out as normal. Good to see the warm wetties, gloves and booties are out in full force! I had the pleasure of a trip up to Auckland a few weeks ago and the water was so warm! For me anyway, had a very small but fun 1 foot day surfing Maori Bay and a couple of other days which were more characteristic of the place I love so much. I hope those great home cooked dinners are keeping you toasty.
Got to keep fit for the snow though, so thats what I’ll be trying to do over these next few weeks, surfing anything that pops up along the way, even concrete! Last but not least a BIIIIIIG Shout out to Jo at Urban Surf in Sumner as well as to the dudes and dudettes at Gravis for hooking us up, best clothes, bags and shoes in town this winter.
Thanks! And as always, thanks MD!
I’m waiting untill the 1st of June to see when I can have my ACL repaired…
yup. looks like I really popped it out when I was riding in Canada, (before the World Uni Games..!!) I’m amping to get it done so I can at least ride a skateboard soon, the weathers been bitching for the last few weeks!!!
I’ve been offered to coach a girls development camp up at Porters Heights for a couple of weeks this year, so I’m thinking of staying in Christchurch, and hopefully my op will be later in the season so I can go up and at least do some chill coaching sessions! Then it’ll be physio and strength building and if I’m lucky, back to Canada in January! (Definitely got Wanaka on the cards for next season!) I’ll keep ya posted!!!
Peace!!! Jenna:)
mastercraft pro wakeboard tour results for stop 1
May 23, 2007 by Brad Smeele (Wakeboarder)
I only made it through to the second round last weekend at the first stop of the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour but that means I have pretty much qualified for the tour. I am stoked with how I rode, especially in the first round with the ridiculously choppy water.
Its now less than two weeks until the second stop in Texas.
first pro tour stop this weekend
May 17, 2007 by Brad Smeele (Wakeboarder)
I have been riding extremely well leading up to the first pro tour stop this weekend, apart from a few mishaps where my binding came off my board and pulled the insert out, breaking my first board. I will fill you in with how I go this weekend. Wish me luck!

May 15, 2007 by Brad Smeele (Wakeboarder)
I popped my boards cherry in the best way possible today, I stomped my first ever heel side 900 off the double up!! I love the way it rides!
I have a week until the first pro tour stop & I’m feeling really confident with my riding, just need a few more rides on my new board to get used to it.
Peace

Hey.
So its still 7 days a week work here in London but just got paid so its ALL good. Also managed to sneak into town on Saturday night and go see Rise Against (prob my fav band) play at the Astorian. Was super stoked as it had sold out weeks earlier but my mate Shem was at the door early and scored us some tickets!! So we jumped on the train then the tube and managed to find my way there. I met up with Shem and my cuz Mark and we were in there! If you have ever seen Rise Against play you’ll know how good it was! Pretty packed and super sweaty mosh but goodtimes! All pumped after the show and ready to go out but no it was back on the tube and off home as I had to start work at 6am, work ruins all ya plans! If you ever get a chance to see them play, don’t miss out!! pce.
I arrived in Orlando after 24 hours of traveling halfway round the world. I was greeted at the airport by my friends Chauntel and young ripper Adam Errington, who was in fine form coming straight from a near by party. My first day in Orlando I picked up 2 brand spankin new Ronix “ONE” boards along with some Ronix “ONE” bindings. I think it is the sickest looking setup ever! Check it out at www.ronixwake.com.
I cant wait to get out on the water on it this afternoon. So stoked to be back!

Hey crew I guess this is the first of my NZ winter blogs it has crept up all very quickly. The weather has got a bunch colder over the last few weeks and we have seen some decent snowfalls over the ranges – most of it has gone well certainly in the christchurch region. I saw Hutt was pretty covered the other day but seeing the web cam now that’s all gone & theres certainly none left in the porters pass as I drove through there saturday and sunday.
However that never stopped the keen so when I got the call consecutive nights last week to go snowboarding I was all up for it. The thursday night was a well planned attempt on one of New Zealand’s biggest and scariest handrails. You can judge for yourself whether or not I have been off the snow too long or I was just a bit too ambitious but I do think it’s a do-able rail and I will be back – my good buddy Charlie Lyons came to hit it with me and all in all we had a good set up – hired the generator and gathered up some lights.

Literally the scariest thing for me was dropping in. I am not a fan of heights at the best of times but the drop off the right side of the drop in ramp was 3 stories up to asphalt. Damn scary but i did manage to overcome those fears and at least drop in – it didn’t get much better than that though as I got bucked at the kink every damn time. Charlie was a little better he got impossibly close to stomping it – coming clean off the end before exploding upon landing due to serious speeds from the steep rail. Anyway friday night was time for a bit more fun and a mellow box setup on the grass on some mellow chch hills. Good times was had by all not that much went down – which is probably a better way to start the season off as opposed to a 30something stair double kink but I was only a day out. I did get a thriller slide on the down – for those of you that don’t know a thriller is a Michael Jackson impersonation where you slide the box on your toe edge – knees bent heel edge as high as possible. For further references check Joseph Mac Kenzie’s new video on nzsnowboard.com – good work buddy

Rightyo see all you crew soon up the hill
