More snow and snowboarding June 30, 2008 by Ambassadors

Hey team. Hope Life is good for all reading.

I have been back snowboarding plenty. Rode all semi decent days last week which didn’t include either of the weekend days as they were rubbish. I have hung round in Christchurch a little longer than I thought I would. But that paid dividends today when I got to go shoot with up and coming photographer Jake Mein.

Mount Hutt had a wopping 50 centimers of new sound which as it turns out is very different to 50cm of fresh. It was real hard and windblown. I’m not usually much of a hater in my blogs but Hutt did a really bad job of getting the mountain open today – they put on their website that there may be delays in opening the six, well I dont think that was fair advertising for the four and a half hour delay which eventuated. They took so long to de-ice the summit six it was disgraceful.

But anyway back to the love, Jake had an awesome idea for a shot. He wanted to set up a pretty high kicker so we could wall ride on plank of a wind fence. Luckily for me it was backside which is the easier wall ride direction. We initially set it up to hit the seccond to top plank but I got that reasonablly easily, so we moved on to the top plank which was damn difficult. I think in the end the better shots came from the lower plank but I landed both a few times. I think I had eight hits and landed six so I thought that was pretty good. As is usual for wallride shots the hardest thing was keeping my board horizontal and parralel with the plank. It was way more noticeable than in most wall ride shots if I wasnt doing this as you could see part of the wood under neath my board whivh should have been covered if my nose were a little lower. Anyway we hopefully got a few shots. Definitely didn’t get anything from my last hit where I tried to gap over the fence. I think this is a possible shot for the future but the kicker we built definitely was not designed for doing that and I got slammed pretty hard, my front foot made it over but my back foot caught and I ended up landing where I had packed all the snow down landing the wall rides, ouch. Benny Comber tried to have a few hits on the wallbut it was pretty tricky without much experience on wall rides so he didnt manage to make it.

We ended up having a great afternoon riding after the photo shoot, went and road laps on the six till 4:30 (extended close time hardly made up for a 1:30 opening of their main lift). We found so many cool wind lips, cat track gaps, pole ollies, fence ollies and the like to do.

It was a really big day and I am absolutely shattered now. So yeah I am having the next two days rest off my board. But will catch you up at the first night time rail jam ever up at snowpark, sponsored by none other than Mountain Dew of course. I have also just confirmed that I will be attending the Mountain Dew and Alta rail jam in Frankton this Saturday too so check out the MD website for more details on that. Make your way down and say hi if you see me cheers Tim

Dew Road Tour – Day Eleven June 30, 2008 by Ambassadors

Today was a Queenstown cracker with the sun shining and a refreshing crispiness in the air.

First stop was The Kawerau Falls Pavilion. Things were pretty chilled here as most people recovered from what was a massive weekend for most of the town who had enjoyed the first few days of Winter Festival.

Then it was off to New World Wanaka. The drive through the Crown Range was wicked with clear blue skies and a bit of snow floating around and of course we had to stop at the famous Cadrona Pub (my fav pub in the whole world) for a few photos on the way.

New World was busy as everyone stopped in after a day up the mountain and were greeted with a satisfying can of dew and some good tunes to chill too.

Tomorrow we are doing a few bits and pieces and will have some free time in the afternoon to have a bit of fun ….. Shotover jet here we come!

Peace

It was Industry Night up the hill with retailers, riders and industry folk all turning up for a free night of riding and kicking the season off with free nibbles and a few drinks in ‘The Woolshed’. The Terrain Park had put in the hard yards and the place on lock with a super fun run that included 2 flat boxes into a battleship box, a longer flat box, a down box and finishing off with 2 C-boxes… SICK!!

Snow Park was kind enough to hook the NZsnowboard.com crew up with a pimped out apartment for the night along with Snow Park Team Riders Shelly Gotlieb, Will Jackways and Abby Lockhart. With a big Screen TV, massive couches and all the bells and whistles life was sweet!

Get up there and check out the night riding. Every Tuesday and Friday night from 5-9pm.

Good riding, good food and accommodation….. SNOW PARK NZ is going off!!

Thanks:
Mad Dawg, Lewis and all the park crew for the sweet setup. Sam, Sally, Claire and the rest of the Snow Park NZ staff for making it happen and launching Snow Park’s night riding with a blast!!

Dew Road Tour – Day Ten June 29, 2008 by Ambassadors

And what a day it was . . . a lot of action happening in the water as the SkidealsNZ.com Day on the Bay commenced for our 10th day of the tour.

We started this morning down at Earnslaw Park again, where we caught Borat winning the SkidealsNZ.com Splash and Dash lake swim. We had heaps of mad prize give aways for the first person who got into the lake fully clothed. They scored them self an Xbox 360 game and a Burton T shirt, plus tons of Mountain dew.

This arvo we hit Fresh Choice, Queenie. where the giveaways cont for a few more hours, hooking every by passer up with a can of Dew and some bluebird chips.

Sarah set herself a sneaky lil task of seeing how many MD stickers she could stick on random people without them noticing. Best she got was 14 on the back of this one dude, who was distracted by the can of Dew Tim was holding! Haha good times..

See use all at The Pavillion tomorrow morning, then again at New World Wanaka later on in the arvo.

Peace,

Tim and Sarah
