Code Red Drop!!!

Over the last few weeks I have been working with the Mountain Dew Code Red team.  We’ve been out and about around Auckland giving away loads of free bottles… here’s some pictures of our travels…..

Update from Morocco

Hey there, As I write I drift back to the moment inspiration overcame me, to travel to the African country Morocco. After seeing Morocco’s culture and beauty in a film a few years back now I had decided then and there I wanted to visit this place now the dream lives, 6 months of soaking in the culture and experiencing what the rugged coastline has on offer. Being the summer months here in Morocco the surf is not at it’s peak, never the less the longboard has been getting a great run and the beauty of the sunset sessions have made up for any lack of swell.

I am living in a tiny fishing village which is frequented by herds of goats who occasionally greet me as I step outside the front door along with the local characters which villages and towns would not be the same without. There is not a lot of development here; raw drain runoff still runs casually onto the streets, rubbish covers the dry hill faces and the shores of the Atlantic coastline which is heartbreaking. Unfortunately a lot of the rubbish comes from out to sea but also their rubbish collecting system does not help their situation.

The people here are wonderful; day by day faces become familiar and most of them are very welcoming and genuine. It’s amazing how much you can communicate with people even if you can not speak each others language everybody knows a smile and it makes for an interesting game of charades. My Arabic is coming along but still only familiar with a few phrases and the French, which is one of the main languages over here will be on my list to conquer.

Today was rather eventful, after taking 15 girls last week for the ROXY Girls Surf and Yoga Week I had two days off and it was timed perfectly with the International Whaling Commission meeting which is taking place as we speak in Agadir (20mins drive from my village) so I popped down there to show some support for the crew protesting against the proposal of lifting the Anti whaling ban which basically means a free for all out in the oceans letting fishermen slaughter and wipe out the little whales we have left. It was a super peaceful protest and the good news had arrived just before we joined that the ban will not be lifted which is huge! There is still two more days to go so fingers crossed the decision stays that way. Tomorrow there will be more Kiwi support ☺

I hope the winter season is going off and you are getting into the snow or enjoying super clean crisp surf sessions.

BRAD SMEELE – Code Red Wakeboard Stunt

Being on location for the Code Red shoot was a blast, and the fact that we were presented with a house and asked to think of a crazy stunt was a cool thing to be a part of.

I looked at the house and came up with the idea to ride through the lounge on the 2nd floor and gap out the window, it turned out pretty crazy so make sure you hit up the code red website to see how it all went down.

Getting pulled through the lounge was super fun!! It was a little bit of a challenge hitting the table on the way through as it is difficult to control a wakeboard without water beneath it. But the stunt crew were awesome and they definitely helped make it all possible. Also make sure you check out the behind the scenes video to see my little helmet trick. www.mountaindewcodered.co.nz

The Highlight of the day for me was getting to trash a perfectly good house with my wakeboard…. and watching Brett and Haimona do their stunts was cool too. I enjoy hanging out with other action sports athletes and seeing how they get creative with what they do.

It was also really cool to see that whole house get transformed from a run down old house that was ready to be demolished into a crazy indoor skatepark type house that I would have been super content living in.

Make sure you register and check out the prize room for some super cool prizes that include Skull Candy Headphones, Flip Video cameras, skateboards, snowboards, a years supply of Code Red, and many more cool prizes. www.mountaindewcodered.co.nz

HAIMONA NGATA – Code Red Stunt

Alright, So my stunt was to ride down this tight set of stairs (which I fell off on a bunch of times!) then come screaming out a narrow doorway, manual a sketchy table with some planks set up on either side, pop a real quick 360 in the space of a wardrobe then jump out the window. Yikes. It was def a laugh doing all this stuff, I came close to dying a bunch of times but it all came out swimmingly! Ha!  You can check it out here!

The highlight of the day was watching Brad do his stunt, Scary! so many factors that could have gotten messed up but he pulled through with flying colours, not to mention freezing his ass off in the icy cold water, poor bugger! That and the catering! That was friggin saaaahhhhwweeeet!!
There’s so many sweeet prizes up for grabs in the prize room, but the best has to of course be the sweet bike that you can ride home on from Subrosa! Ha! It’s so awesome! And all you have to do is enter at www.mountaindewcodered.co.nz, it’s as easy as that!!
