SHELLY GOTLIEB – not long now…..passing the time until

Pretty soon I’ll be leaving all this sunshine behind and be on a plane to the snow topped hills of Colorado.

But until then I have been keeping myself busy with lots of fun NZ summerish things to do…..like for example this hike on Ruapehu.

Hike to Hut on Turoa side

The hike is the Mangaturuturu hut on the way to Lake Surprise. It’s really cool, you walk past and down the cascades which lots of water falls into snow melted pools. Nice to cool you down on a hot days walking.

little dip

Cute little hut

The people that made this hut walked all the materials in. Quite amazing as there is a fire place and enough room to sleep about 10 people in this cute wee hut.

I say if you wanna escape and go somewhere quite the Mangaturuturu hut may be the spot :)

KIRK BEYER – Beach Mish

So I took a bunch of youths on a beach mission to give away some Code Red cause the weather was so good!

Before we even got there these young people were frothing on the stuff and going crazy in the back of the van!

On the way to Lyall Bay it’s tradition to Toot in the Mt Victoria tunnel, toot toot

You’ve gotta take every opportunity you get to give away Mountain Dew, dunno if it’s legal or not but at every traffic light you gotta offer it…

We finally arrived at the beach with plenty of ice cold Dew… before sending the troops out they had to have another…

and then off we went, spread out across all of Lyall Bay beach with a couple hundred bottles and cans of Mountain Dew ensuring its the only drink people require on the next hot summer day Wellington provides :)

KIRK BEYER – 4WD and extreme dam building

Last weekend my mate Marty had his Stag do!

The plan was to go to the Wairarapa and 4WD around the coastline and go diving, of course one of the boys thought his 2WD ute was as good as a 4WD and the result was:

But the winner of the morning was the trusty little RAV4 – it flew through every river and the sand was no trouble at all.

Anyway, we ended up bailing on the diving because good old Wellington was blowing a gale and we would have been swept out to sea! So instead we found a spot, lit a fire and cooked some damper (bread) like true bushmen ha ha

And when you’re roughing it out in the bush, the one thing that you need to accompany your damper is a nice cold Mountain Dew… But how do you get it icy cold out in the bush I hear you say… well only the most natural and extreme way :)

So what do a bunch of guys do when you can’t go diving but you have a whole afternoon to spare? The most obvious answer to that is of course… build a dam!

And yes, it will always turn into a competition of who can be the most manly and lift the biggest boulder

After successfully building a dam that no one will ever find or use, we left feeling very proud of our dam building skills and reminisced about how we moved rocks to build something incredibly awesome but with no photographic proof, only the memory. Next on the agenda for the Stag was to go clay shooting which is wicked!!

Being my fist time it took a while to get it, but I managed to hit 5 out of the 10 clay pots. Here’s Marty the stag, epic weather ay!

We all know that when a group of men get together, a BBQ needs to be involved somewhere in the mix…flame grilled!

As for the rest of  night, it remained fairly mellow out in Martinborough… bit of Poker and plenty of good times!

ANGIE KOOPS – Article + JimBeam the Break

Hi guys, here is a recent little article in a free mag over here :)

The Jim Beam The Break competition is starting on the 29th November for my heat, so exciting!

Hoping everyone will support and vote Ange!! :) You can also win some really sick prizes for voting, including a $5,000 Byron Bay Surf Holiday.

Yah Dru (the funny guy with all the sunblock on his face in the article below and my bf) ended up winning his heat, so stoked he’s through to finals!!

Thanks for all the support!

HAIMONA NGATA – These guys!

So there’s quite a few companies out there doing fashion, and there’s some doing graphics for moto X bikes, but none seem to meld the two together, until these blokes came along!

It’s really cool to see people just ‘doing stuff’ and these guys have brought together their love of all things fashiony and their love of MOTO X.

Once you’re done slipping on some sweet new decals onto your KTM 250, you can slide a new fresh Tee on before heading off to the pub! Makes alot of sense to me for sure!

Check out more of both their clothing range & decal range at www.ilabb.com.

BRAD SMEELE – Shoulder surgery date confirmed!

After being back in NZ for over two months already I have finally been confirmed for surgery on the 6th of December.

It has been a long and drawn out process and I am stoked that I now have a date set and can get this over and done with.

Check this pic below which is from about half a second after the first time I dislocated my shoulder. I was riding in the Planet X Rail Jam at the St Kilda Festival in Melbourne, 2008. After Dislocating my shoulder in practice, I went on to win the event later that afternoon!! And two weeks later I landed my first 1080..

I will fill you in on how the surgery goes…

SHELLY GOTLIEB – To the TOP

So the weather has been so epic I just couldn’t resist a ‘wee’ hike (understatement) to the top of Ruapehu.

Everyone’s got to do it in their life I say!

well deserved picnic at the summit

All ya need is some water, a munch at the top, a camera, SUNSCREEN and the ability to be able to ride down. Easy Peasy!

It should take about 45mins to get up from the top of the 6 seater on Turoa side. I like to take my leisurely hiking time so it took me 55mins but who’s counting really.

The boot pack up......

The view is super worth it regardless how long it takes you to get up.

hot tub at the top anyone?

Then you get the shred down, which takes a fraction of the time it takes to get up.

All the photos in the world don’t really do it justice tho, so I say put it on the bucket list for next year if ya haven’t done it already.

:)
