SHELLY GOTLIEB (Snowboarder) Odgen Utah 3rd Dew Tour
February 16, 2011 by Shelly Gotlieb (Snowboarder)
OK, so get off a plane from Canada and head straight to Utah for the 3rd and final Dew Tour. I missed out on the 2nd Dew Tour unfortunately as I had the Spain World Cup at the same time so due to the clashing events I went for the Euro option. My friend Possum however stuck to the Dew Tours which paid off as going into the last stop she was in the running for 2nd overall in the whole cup.All was very exciting!!!!!
From the lodge lookin at the jump
Utah… so I’ve been many times, but not to Snowbasin just outside of Odgen. This Mt was SICK, honestly the sickest resort I have been to in a while. The Mt has lots of long sick runs that would be awesome on a pow day where there is hardly anyone around, it’s such a mellow resort, plus the lodges there are fit for a king!!!!!!!. Check it out, million dollar chandlers and shiz, the best food I’ve ever had at a resort. It was my type of place.
I like…
The food was super good to at this resort, even had this chef man to serve it up
Ok ok enough about the pimp resort, I guess we are there for a comp anyways, ha.
Ok well had a few days of practice, the course was 3 rails 2 jumps. Coming off an injury I was taking it mellow just wanting to make it through the days of practice. Comp day draws, they take 5 to finals and I fell both runs ending up 7th to be 8th overall which I was happy about with not my best runs. Possum made it through to finals on the bubble at 5th. Had another day of practice then the comp day went down.
Jamie Jana and Spencer were all battling it out for top 3 spots. No surprises there when Jana landed her cab 5 back 3 combo. Stoked for her as she had a gnarly crash in her semis run and ended up with like 10 stitches in her knee!!! Jamie got 2nd with switch back 5 back 3 combo and Spencer 3rd with switch back 5 back 3 also. Poss fell her runs and ended up 5th but that’s still awesome for her as she not only got rookie of the year ‘Boom thank you very much’ but 2nd overall in the whole cup!!!! So stoked for her for sure!!!!
Check out this site for more pics and info
Ok well thats me, I have some time off comps now and get to relax, ride and learn some tricks. Excited, Enjoy
Bye Utah
BRAD SMELLE (Wakeboarder) Wake season is in full swing!
February 15, 2011 by Brad Smeele (Wakeboarder)
The NZ wake season officially kicked off a couple of weeks ago at the ‘LG North Island Championships’. We were blessed with some stunning weather and the riding level was raised once again.
The stand out performances in the guys divisions were Talor Walters and Nik Gibson who are Skull Candy’s two newest team riders. Talor at only 14 years old took out the Junior Men’s division (under 19s) with a perfect stand up run, including his latest trick the Railey (superman).
Nik also had a great run and ended up on top of the podium for the second year in a row as the LG North island Champion..
But possibly the most impressive performance seen all weekend was from the young Sophie Schollum who took out the open woman’s division with several inverts (flips) that she has just recently learned..

SHELLY GOTLIEB (Snowboarder) ‘ C.O.P yea you know me ‘
February 14, 2011 by Shelly Gotlieb (Snowboarder)
It really stands for Canadian Olympic Park but it had a nice ring to it so I sang it all week long when we were at Calgary for the Burton Canadian Open.
C.O.P and a mini upside down, pretty normal
So C.O.P is the size of snowpark and is pretty much in the city, there are houses and shiz all around, kind of a weird set up but the Kiwi crew who were there got into it and made the most of it, Stefi, Possum, Kendall and I were Kiwi A-team.
Stefi at sunset owwwwww cute
So going from comp to comp was definitely starting to get to me, just traveling and packing and waiting and riding and yuck food, but the worst was the hotel rooms! I have spent more time in hotels in the last month than I have in my whole life.
Yup this is my life
Some hotel rooms are pimping and some are average……. ;( but oh well, can’t win em all, and thats goes for the comps as well…
This Burton Open was one of the more interesting ones I’ve done, we didnt have the best weather for the day of finals. Stefi and I both made it to finals and we did our best to preform with flat light and uphill wind. I managed to wangle some sort of run together to place me 4th and Stefi was right behind with 5th so Yay 2 Kiwis in the top 5.
Kendal got 4th in pipe and Possum had to rest her self for the Dew tour the following week so she can get an over all finish and kill it!! Yus so thats where we are off to now, on a plane again this time to Odgen Utah. Yipeeeeee peace
BRETT BAND (Skateboarder) I have Mountain Dew !!!
February 11, 2011 by Brett Band (Skateboarder)
I was quite happy to be woken up by a happy delivery man this morning!
He came with a wee bit more Mountain Dew than I could possibly consume so I thought he’d enjoy a little portion himself and I think he agreed.
Now I still have far too much Mountain Dew to finish myself, so I will begin by giving it to you – if I see you, probably friends, but if you are at skate spot or something like that you may enjoy the sound of a fresh can opening in your hand!
As for news? I had a CT scan on my right ankle, but I like to call it a digital photograph of my bones, because that is what I saw. I also saw a nice little chunk of bone that I wasn’t born with popping out the side – and I wondered why it felt like there was a piece of bone poking into more bone when I moved.
So in the end nothing has been achieved, I still have a piece of bone attached to my bone and loads of Mountain Dew, but I am quite content.
…I recently returned from a trip to Mexico, and here is a photo of my Mexican dish I threw together, it tasted very good, thanks to the genius combination of food they engineered back in the day.
CHRISTY PRIOR (Snowboarder) Ohhh yeh, loving life…..
February 11, 2011 by Christy Prior (Snowboarder)
Wow, seriously, I love this place -its incredible!
Just had three of the most amazing days riding Breckenridge, CO with good people, great park and today even the weather put it on for us… sunny, blue and B.E.A.utiful… Some days I find your just on your game and the progression you achieve from this just gives you the biggest kick ever!
Who needs drugs??… Just go snowboarding!! I’m working tomorrow and the weekend but Friday I have the day off and…. its onnnn!
Also, last weekend we had the Burton AM slopestyle at Winter Park, Colorado, USA…. The caliber of riding was just phenomenal… For the guys it was show us your double cork and for us ladies there were backside rodeo’s, flips, spinning to win -the works! We had a good kiwi crew there with Jay Walsh finishing 6th overall, Ben Comber with some of the steeziest back 7′s I’ve seen and Stefi Luxton throwing huge front side 540′s over the last jump -unfortunately not quite landing her run and just missing out on finals (which she made up for with a 5th placing at the Canadian Burton Open- so sick!).
I placed 7th over all, not quite getting the run I would have liked but it was a great ice breaker for me getting back into it as it was my first slopestyle in nearly two years- and god damn was I nervous!!! Rails are my comfort zone…. not boosting ridiculously fast into large jumps! Ha but…. I must admit this jumping business…. kind of addictive? All in all it was a good day, and everybody had a blast!
Here’s a shot from our session the other night…. I’m working on getting some mag shots this season and this was a perfect warm up rail to start on before we go scaring ourselves sh#tless hitting the good stuff!
Over and out…. Do the DEW!!!

SHELLY GOTLIEB (SNOWBOARDER) – Winter Xtreme Games
February 7, 2011 by Shelly Gotlieb (Snowboarder)
Hey guys, sorry its been awhile from last update. Lifes been hectic, got back from Spain and went straight into Aspen for X Games practice.
Rolled into the Burton girls house. Kelly, Enni, Rana, Susie and I had a pimp pad for the week. This is where we spent most of our time. We would get takeout and watch all the comps from the comfort of our own living room. Best way to roll, Aspen is sooooooooo cold at night standing around after a hard day of training you can do without.
So the course was super fun, it was big, and close together but it was fun. I had practice for 5 days and I needed it. We got to the day of competing and I was still an alternate (not in the comp yet) so they stopped practice and got the course ready. I asked if anyone wasn’t turning up and they said nope all is doing it, then……. I hear a “wait” “your in” someone had pulled out last minute, and there it was I was in the comp. Ha!
Had 3 of the worst runs of my life, always the way. I fell on some silly parts of the course and this was a course where you can not fall anywhere, oh well as I said I fell stupidly. It was fun tho and I didn’t get hurt which is the main thing.
The most amazing thing was the level of riding from the boys and the girls. Boys slope is off the hook right now, its getting insane. Talented wee boys we got there, and every girls run had at least 7 in it, sick to see where us girls will take it. I don’t think we ain’t too far behind the double corks yo!
Here is some highlights of the extreme games enjoy.
Ok got to go off to Canada now for the Canadian open, bye!
SHELLY GOTLIEB (Snowboarder) Finals day – Spain
February 2, 2011 by Mountain Dew NZ, Shelly Gotlieb (Snowboarder)
Stoked to say the least, we woke on the day of finals after 100km winds, it was super sunny and no trace of the winds so away we gooooooooo…
So this comp I found a little different but made do. The judges were a little harsh at times and with a slight sketch in my semis run I was in 9th postion, they take 9. Talk about cutting it fine, Stefi killed it with also making finals in 4th position.
When you’re last in quals it gives you a “nothing to lose” attitude so I banged out my first run and landed the shit out of it. I was in 1st for a while then got bumped to 3rd, here I stayed for both runs of finals. So stoked. Stefi rode super good also and had a sick run but just sketched on the last feature. She was in 7th, both of us super stoked!
So Stefi rode super well for boys as always he qualified 1st after semis, no pressure going into finals with that!!!!! He did so well just sketched his double back rodeo tho. Pretty sick riding considering he was super ill the night before with a weird bug.
So after my run and knowing my placing of 3rd, I instantly had this lady with me, can’t remember her name but she told me she now would be with me at all times until i’d done my drug testing ( ha FIS ) so after the awards, NZ flag flying, we were whisked away in a line of minis to go pee in a cup, no shit
Ok so after a press conference that know one really asked any questions ( think they were used to racers not slopestylers ) we went to the drug pee testing spot. Might I add by the way I was busting in my runs to pee, that was like 2 hours ago by now.
I get ushered into this room with all these boxes, my pee lady still with me, I got to go pee in front of the doctor lady so she makes sure i dont do anything sneaky and put other peoples pee in there? Gosh knows how you do that, It was an experience I say, very different and kinda weird but oh well…Go third and that was really all that matters!!
So yea I guess that’s the end of my pee/podium at Spain blog. I hope I opened your eyes to the weird and wonderful world of FIS comps, ha i have to go now, got to get a plane to X Games!
Peace…..
