BRETT BAND (SKATEBOARDER) – Southern Front!

We got hit pretty solid here in Auckland the last couple days and my toes are freezing right now, skateboarding is minimal as it is just too chilly to fall over on hard ground in this weather. Last weekend though, Amazon Boardstore in Parnell held a little BBQ and also a downhill race/chill from the top of Parnell through to the store.

All the folks leaving in their BMW’s and Mercs after the Saturday markets were not impressed as they were held waiting for us to bomb down a very steep hill. Many wheels were turned into squares but it was a good laugh! Should be a video up soon! Street skating!

On the street skating topic, we should do it far more…especially in Auckland, it is packed with epic spots everywhere! Trust me it was far more fun skating around town, you get a real kick out of seeing how grumpy people get simply because you are having so much fun, also when you get chased out of spots by security guards. All in good favour though, be nice to them and they realise we are just having fun and not trying to annoy the public.

Aotea Square is basically the best spot I’ve skated in my life. I was lucky enough to skate the world famous LOVE park in Philadelphia, USA and I am backing Aotea as a square competitor. It is amazing! Get down there…during the day is pretty much a no go, so don’t go down there and bother too many people or they will ban us completely. Best time is after dark, there are lights and it is even better, less people. Sunday is the best day for it, after 1pm it is all good! …world class skate spot right there.

BRAD SMEELE (WAKEBOARDER) – First 4 days in Cali..

I am not one to brag… but I am sooo stoked to be back in the US!

I had a long flight to LA followed by a bus ride to Union Station, then a train ride down to a sick beach town called Encinitas, in San Diego county. Fellow NZ wakeboarder Jeff Weatherall picked me up with a some friends from ozzy, DP, Lipsy, and Greg. We spent the afternoon surfing and then had a few beers while watching the sun go down. That night we followed it up with several drinks at the local bar called the ‘Saloon’, apparently it goes off on a Monday night!!

Day two in started with a big breakfast to kick off the day, then we went on a bit of a road trip up to Canyon Lake, we met up with Chad Lowe who was a coach at the wakeboard camp where I spent my first season in the US 8 years ago. Riding was great fun and I landed a few tricks that I hadn’t done in over 8 months. Jeff and I rode doubles and shot some pics and videos with his Go Pro. Chads riding inspired me to try some wrapped tricks, so I will let you know how that goes after my next ride. From Canyon Lake we drove to LAX and dropped the boyz off to fly back home to Australia.

The next day we went to opening day at the Del Mar Races, but we had to get ourselves dressed for the occasion, so with about $30 spent at a thrift store an outfit was put together, I bought some pants, a fedora hat and some red suspenders to go with my new red G-Shock. I was ready for the day of drinking and horse racing festivities. It was really cool to see everyone dressed up and I had an awesome time.

SHELLY GOTLIEB (SNOWBOARDER) – Winter Games is coming!!!!

Check out this edit by film master and super director Tim Pierce. So great to have Winter Games back in NZ. The count down beings!

CHRISTY PRIOR (SNOWBOARDER) – Snnnnow!

Apologies for the lack of posts these last few weeks, internet has been a touchy subject. There is a lack of technical support in Wanaka and we have been on a waiting list to have internet installed for the last 4weeks and STILL don’t have it. Drain. Its amazing how much we rely on internet in this day and age! Especially when I am completing my Business Degree ‘online’…. Hmmmm.

So… of late, we have been getting our shred on mostly at Snowpark NZ . We have also ventured over to The Remarkables, mainly in the attempt to compete in the slopestyles series that was suppose to be held last Sunday but was postponed due to weather until today but weather again put a stop to that. At least the snow did in the end decide to grace us with its presence and man has it been onnnnn! The Cardrona valley was coated for the last week or so and it has just started snowing again today! Whoop! Check out some pic’s….

Filmed a wee jib edit with Peirs from NZsnowboard.com called ‘hot laps’ on Friday up snowpark which will be out soon so I’ll be sure to keep you up to date with that =)

Working at the Bullock bar in Wanaka at nights so I get to shred during the day which is awesome. Really need to get stuck into my studies though…. Finding it a little hard to find the time at the moment!! :/ haha.

Taking a yoga class on Sunday nights for a lazy $5 in Wanaka throughout the season too so if anyone is keen to come along let me know =)

BRAD SMEELE (WAKEBOARDER) – A Road Less Traveled – The Forgotten Footage (teaser)

In 2007 a group of wakeboarders went on a journey with a purpose. That purpose was to discover the glass calm and crystal clear lakes of New Zealand’s South Island. The project was filming for Josh Robinson’s next film called ‘A Road Less Traveled’. After the trip was over, the film concept was changed, board sponsors were changed and the tapes ended up sitting in a box in a dark closet in a suburban Melbourne home…. until now.
