Back on the board… and loving it!

Last week we headed down to Mt Ruapehu to judge the secondary schools slopestyle.
Got to sneak a couple of runs in before we had to start and MAN was it fun! One of the best mountains to free ride! Would love to get down there more often!
The judges getting some V.I.P seating.
6 hour drive back to Auckland, couple of hours shut eye then it was off to the airport, destination Queenstown!!
Touched down at 9am and straight up to the Remarkables ski field. Sunny, spring goodness! Not going to lie, I was definitely questioning my snowboarding at this point… seems 2 months out is 2 months too long!
The following day Parklife held the 4th TRIC slopestyle of the series at Remarkables and although it may not have been the best idea, I entered with the intention of just getting amongst it, with some straight airs. Turns out its easier said than done, it was so much fun I couldn’t help myself! Haha… I ended up finishing up in 2nd place with a back 180 to cab 540 combo just 0.5 points behind the leader!
I’ll take that for my second day back in the park!
Some pic’s from the day courtesy of Genevieve from the Remarks… check them all out here!

Not a word from a lie…
Tamed beasts, drowned in popcorn and rolled around.
Went for a wee skate…
Heya heya heya ho! Here’s some footy of the bowls I, was talking about in Mangawhai. Footy was filmed by the Dagger Morph of Dunedin.
Also Brett that Go Pro footy is rad! Lets go filming!
Swung by the Oakley office the other week to say hi and snag a new pair of sunnies. Oakley have had my back for quite a few years now, so I’m always super stoked to go by the office and see what sort of crazy stuff they have in.
I tend to sway towards the more ‘weird’ stuff they have and more so it seems that the Frogskin style of glasses have been their guinea pig for out there designs and patterns. The Frogskins were massive in the 80′s, but died off in the nineties. Now with the resurgence of everything 80′s (Air Jordans, etc) they’re back with a vengeance.
They flowed me this rad pair of Jupiter Camp Frogskins, which are pretty out there, but super rad. I added them to my lil swag of frogskins! Summer is comin’ so it’s time to get a new frrreesshh pair of sunnies for the beach.
Thanking You!
Amongst all the World Cup extravaganza happening round NZ, I managed to miss it all (unfortunately because it looked amazing!) and hung down South in the Wanaka and Queenstown. Here is a wee clip of some things I captured on my new Go-Pro cam cord
Hey Guys
We would like to introduce you to one of our Mountain Dew mate’s Mani Eder, pro skier from Austria who’s currently residing in NZ and taking our slopes by storm. We’ll let him tell you about what he’s been up to this season.

MANI EDER:
Well I have been skiing a lot this winter but managed to injure my back (compression fractured in my back T10) just 6 weeks ago. This meant I couldn’t compete in the ‘100% Pure NZ Winter Games.’ Which was a bit stink…….but I did manage to ride in a few other comps.
I started the NZ winter season with the ‘Electric Quarter Pipe Battle’ at Snowpark Wanaka. This was a pretty good comp for me, got the highest air and best trick on that, with a Double Flat 9!

After that I cruised on down to Dunedin to compete in the Octagon Rail Jam. I felt like I was skiing really well at this event and was getting heaps of compliments about my riding, but didn’t manage to get on the podium! Guttered…….but I guess that’s how comps go!
I was planning on competing at the ‘Big Air’ comp in Methven, but opted not to compete due to my back injury. So instead of riding I was asked to judge the event. This was a cool new experience.

Last week I headed up to Mt Ruapehu for the ‘Export 33 Extreme’ comp which was my first big mountain comp. After the 1st day I was in 6th place, got rewarded for doing a 360 and a Rodeo 540 in my run. Day 2, I was on my way up the ratings and with good run. The final day began and I was aiming for a podium finish. I started my run but got too much speed into a 40ft. cliff drop which put my set up off for the next cliff and my skies couldn’t find grip on the ice and I fell about 70ft. to ice and got a bit winded!! I still managed to finish the event and I’m currently sitting in 17th position in the world.

Next I’ll be competing at the ‘NZ Open Big Mt.’ from 14th–17th September. I hope to get a good placing at this event so I can work my way up the rankings. A top ranking will help me secure a ticket to ride in the ‘Freeride World Tour.’ My goal is to be amongst the top 10 in the world!
Wish me luck! Do the Dew!

Check out this video I produced for Vans NZ of a recent road trip we did just after the Mountain Dew Pinball Skatepark opening. It also features the crazy character known as Mike Bancroft!
