Snorkling Big Crays & Seals February 5, 2010 by Angie Koops (Surfer)

Wow what a day, back in the beautiful Kaikoura and today was such an amazing day, perfect blue Sky’s, hot weather clear waters and magical mountains; I forgot how sweet this place is.

Today I went out with my big bro Kelvin on his Snorkling tour and I’m not just saying this because hes my big bro but man it was sick!! I learnt so much about the different kinds of marine life, what we could actually catch the regulations of sizes etc which I found really interesting.  We got all kitted up with weight belts gloves all the gears and went hunting for some Kai. It really is another world under there. There were heaps of young playful fur seals following us around. I think they were playing that chicken game with each other because they were getting super close, very cheaky .

Another highlight was when Kelv grabbed this big octopus to show us it tried to stick onto his arm but he let it go and it gracefully glided away but he was a little creepy because it was pretty big. We caught a big paua a nice butter fish and a huge Crayfish oh and a kina. To top it off we went back and had a BBQ the freshest seafood you will ever get anywhere. The MD went down quite nicely too, Seriously a awesome day.
