Boat Trip Photo Shoot in Papua New Guinea! February 26, 2010 by Angie Koops (Surfer)

Hi guys, so exciting – I’m going to Papua New Guinea with a few Pro guy surfers (I’m going to be the only girl surfer on board). It all happened so quickly because this nice swell was forecasted and Andrew Sheild the photographer for Australian Surfing Life magazine thought that this was the best opportunity to get the best waves, so it all literally happened within a couple of days.  Yesterday we found out about the swell and today tickets were booked!!!  So I’m heading off to PNG tomorrow yeesh so quick! Very exciting!

We will be on a boat for 8 days traveling around finding the most remote best surfing conditions.  It is forecasted that we will find beautiful 4-6ft reef breaks. I have never been to PNG and it’s a pretty remote surfing area so without a doubt we will be surfing some un-crowded surf!!  I’ll write another blog when I get back with heaps of pics from my trip!

River surfers & photographers February 24, 2010 by Angie Koops (Surfer)

Hi guys, our friends Yoyo and Andy are over from Germany at the moment.  Yoyo is a pro river surfer, pretty crazy they do all these cool tricks surfing but on a wave in a river!  It’s meant to be pretty different to surfing in the ocean, well obviously, but they do most tricks just going horizontal along a wave instead of vertically like we do on a ocean wave.  Anyway he has also brought a photographer over called Andy, he does photos in water and on land so hopefully I’ll be able to post some pics soon!!

Breakers Burleigh Pro February 19, 2010 by Angie Koops (Surfer)

Hi guys, well thought I’d give you an update on how things have been going. I’ve been back at work doing my remedial massage and personal training business, I’ve been getting a few clients and ticking away which is great.  It’s awesome because I only have to work one or two hours a day and the rest I can surf and focus on other things :)

I have been hanging out down at the QS Pro that is happening just around the corner from my house at Burleigh Point. It’s a all mens QS event.  My boyfriend Dru was in it and he did really well in his first heat busting some interesting airs that I only dream about doing……but I will keep trying…….his next heat he could of sown up but unfortunately he snapped the back fin out after getting a great wave. It was super tricky to get another board because you have to climb over all the rocks his board caddy ran a board down to him but then he had to paddle all the way back out and it was low tide and a big paddle with only  few minutes left needing only a 4 point ride.  Sad because he can do those in his sleep but anyway he ran out of time.  Bummer!  But it was a great experience and he was able to show cast some of his talent out there which was great!

Fun Waves, BBQs & Curl Article February 10, 2010 by Angie Koops (Surfer)

Had the best surf in Kaikoura just the other day; it was so hot and the waves were about 3-4 ft with hardly anyone out and super glassy; what a dream!  I definitely got my wave quoter up, super stoked about that. Its been so great hanging out in my little home town catching up with some of my best buddies I went to school with and my couzy bros. Also sending time with my beautiful nieces, they are so hilarious the smallest one Anika just loves trying to walk around in the biggest shoes she can find and Serena is too intelligent for her own good haha she is very cheeky.

I also caught up with my wetsuit sponsor Seventhwave in Chch yesterday before flying back to the GC.  Was very sad, I really didn’t want to leave I love ENZed so much.

But just got back in from surfing just down the road from my house around Palm Beach there were super fun right handers reeling down the beach with only Dru and I scoring them.  Gotta love Palmy the points are a complete joke at the moment with about 500 people fighting to get a wave.  The Quiky Pro is on this month so all the Pros and onlookers are starting to arrive.  It’s going to be busy but fun to mix it up with all of them!

Snorkling Big Crays & Seals February 5, 2010 by Angie Koops (Surfer)

Wow what a day, back in the beautiful Kaikoura and today was such an amazing day, perfect blue Sky’s, hot weather clear waters and magical mountains; I forgot how sweet this place is.

Today I went out with my big bro Kelvin on his Snorkling tour and I’m not just saying this because hes my big bro but man it was sick!! I learnt so much about the different kinds of marine life, what we could actually catch the regulations of sizes etc which I found really interesting.  We got all kitted up with weight belts gloves all the gears and went hunting for some Kai. It really is another world under there. There were heaps of young playful fur seals following us around. I think they were playing that chicken game with each other because they were getting super close, very cheaky .

Small on the East so off to the West side January 28, 2010 by Angie Koops (Surfer)

Dru and I have had a few fun surfs in Kaiks getting a couple  fun waves with the cousins at Clarence and Meaties. But for the last few days it has been pretty small, we heard that it was pumping on the West coast so we packed the car and headed over there on tuesday 4 hours later we hit Hot weather and the waves were up so we were stoked. got some waves at Cobden, Blaketown and a few beachies out front of the campsite. on the way home stopped off at Hanmer hotsprings and soaked our tired muscles and had a awesome feed at a bar across the road. NZ is so amazing!
