North Island Wake Champs & M.I.A. Wakefest February 24, 2010 by Brad Smeele (Wakeboarder)

Hello there, Sorry it has been so long since my last blog entry, I have been keeping busy with my rehabilitation as well as getting prepared for going back to the USA. I have booked my flights and will be out of here on the 27th of May (about a week before the 6 month mark after surgery) I am really looking forward to getting back over there and back on the water.. Speaking of back on the water I managed to go for a wake surf the other day!! So much fun!

Finals Double up

Over the weekend I was down in Mangakino for the North Island Championships as well as the first ever M-I-A Wakefest.  The North islands were probably the biggest and best to date, I was commentating the event and there were some seriously good rides going down across all of the divisions. Not to mention the crowd was the biggest we have ever had in Mango.

On the Saturday night we went on up to the Motocross track where ‘Wakefest’ was being held, unfortunately we missed the first act which was the ‘Sons of Zion’ as they were playing pretty early in the evening. At about 8.30 on came D-Dub who were playing some super funky tunes that got everyone cutting shapes on the D-floor. They were followed up by Concord Dawn who raged on through the night. Make sure you come along next year as this thing gets bigger and better!

The results from the weekend are as follows:

BIG DAY OUT!!! but not in… January 19, 2010 by Brad Smeele (Wakeboarder)

How amazing was the big day out?!? No, really… How was it?

I decided to get my entrepreneurial hat on and sell car parking and sausages outside the Big Day Out along with my pal Antonio..

We filled up his factory with cars by 11pm and then sat around all day wishing it would rain!! Im sure we were the only people in Auckland hoping for precipitation as we had pre purchased 110 poncho rain coats. The forecast was for rain but it never showed up so we were unsuccessful in our efforts.. I even tried doing a rain dance… but no luck. the glow stick sales were not so successful either, so if you know anyone that wants about 900 glow sticks they are going cheap!

The one thing that really went off though is the sausage sizzle!!! We managed to get rid of 300 sausages in about 45mins… After the BDO of course. Everyone was drunk and hungry and the smell of sausages was just too tempting for many. We couldn’t cook them fast enough! The Mountain Dews went down a treat too.

Killer time at Rhythm and Vines January 5, 2010 by Brad Smeele (Wakeboarder)

Happy New Year Everybody!!! I am really looking forward to this 2010 we have… I have a great feeling about it!

Over New Years I was down in Gizzy for the crazy festivities of Rhythm and Vines as well as the BW camping festival.. I got up to so much including: Judging Bikini Comps, commentating the Wakeboard Jam, Partying hard every night, I even made 10 dudes have a belly flop contest into a pond of duck s#!t for a pair of Skull Candies!!

We partied it up with the Jim Beam Crew and ended up getting some supplies…

The Music line-up was off the hook! some of my favorites were: The John Butler Trio, Krafty Kuts, Moby, Kora, The Potbellies, Concord Dawn and many more!!

I will have a video up soon of all of the festivities so stay tuned.. Peace!
