Rainbow Rail jam/mini air
September 11, 2009 by Jeremy Thorns (Snowboarder)
Rainbow Ski area had their Rail Jam/Mini Air on Saturday. I was up in Nelson on a bit of a road trip and made it up there to check it out. I havn’t been to rainbow in about 8 years so it was good to go back. Chris from Cheapskates in Nelson had set up some small jumps and a couple of small rails for the local boys to throw down on. In the end Sam Burton won the open division with Jason Hylkema getting second. My sister came up with me and entered her first comp and got second in the Open Woman, yeow!! haha. Rainbow is a sick little hill so if you get the chance go check it out. Chur
So the Billabong Bro Down turned out to be sick!!! The 1/4 pipe was a bit tough for riders because the weather was pretty av but the Big Air on Saturday was sick. With good weather and some amped riders there where some hammers being thrown! Some tricks that were seen….front 9s, back 9s, cab 9s, switch back 9s, double backflips, back rodeo 7s, attempted double back rodeo, double corks and a few 10s….pretty epic. Mark Anderson held it down for the local crew getting 3rd and pocketing $1000 and Shelly Gotleib also claimed 3rd grabbing $500. Good effort! the after party was goodtimes with the Bacardi bus hooking up the drinks.
Sup. The Billabong crew are back in town again and will be up Snowpark this friday and saturday with the Quarter pipe and big air comps!!! Get up there and watch some epic riding from the local crew and a few international pros that will be there to throw down. chur
The weekend turned out to be and epic one for NZ snowboarding!!! The winter games slopestyle was on up at Remarkables. With a lot of international riders still around the kiwis came out in force and dominated. Stef Zeestraten ended up winning the mens division with nick hyne 2nd. The other local boys Jordan Rehrer and nick brown got 4th and 5th. Yeow.
Once again Shelly Gotlieb proved how high her level of riding is by winning the Gold for the woman. She beat Jamie Anderson who ended up second. Epic results for the NZ crew and a lil bit of cash to help them out! Chur
We scored the weather again for the second slopestyle up at remarks!! The boys had the park looking sick again but the cat driver had pushed up a gnarly second jump that had to be altered before the comp started. After that was sorted the crew were killing it. 1080s and double backflip attempts were being hucked all good viewing for the crowd. In the end it was nick hyne who took it out for the men followed by nick brown and one of the japa boys choco.
The womans was taken out by one of the japanese chicks followed by Charlotte Trundle and Dew rider Christy Prior all killing it and hitting the big jumps. Anyways get up to the remarks and check out the park.

So the burton open slopestyle finals were AMAZING!! The best snowboarding I have ever seen! In the mens finals there was 9s, 10s, 12s, a 1440 attempt, double corks and all sorts of crazy tricks. In the end Seb Toutant won with Eric Willett 2nd and Torstein Horgmo 3rd.
In the Womans finals our very own Shelly Gotlieb qualified 1st and ended up 3rd in the end! She was killing it all day and deserved the podium for sure. Jamie Anderson ended up winning with some solid tricks. go to www.nzsnowboard.com and check out the footage…its epic! chur
