Scored some waves at The Mount March 8, 2010 by Kirk Beyer (Surfer)

Still a bit dissapointed from the bad loss at Whangamata, we stopped into the Mount on the way home and I finally found the sweet spot on my new board! This board is so mean! Just didn’t have enough time to suss it out before the contest!

Stoked though, looking forward to practicing the next two weeks before the Port Waikato comp at the end of the month!

Chur chur. Mount Main beach super fun, check out the pics below:

A manky weekend March 8, 2010 by Kirk Beyer (Surfer)

Usually at surf comps I go to the problem is that the waves are too small . . . at Whangamata on the weekend for the Hyundai Pro Longboard tour it was the opposite – the waves were too big. Well, not too big but just ugly and too much water.

Join that with the fact that I’m unfit and you get me in my heat paddling for 20mins trying to get out the back. Caught one wave scoring a 4.5 but couldn’t get out the back again to catch another. I even came in and ran up the beach but just ran out of time!

So round 3 was as far as I made it in this comp which was very dissapointing, but it was good to watch the other competitors ripping. On Sunday the wind went offshore and the waves dropped for the finals. A good mate of mine Dylan Barnfield was on fire the whole comp and managed to take it out, it was a great final to watch.

Big ups to fellow MD Ambassador Daisy Thomas for winning the national title again! What a legend. Daisy and I gave out some Mountain Dew to a bunch of people along the Whangamata beach before her final, everyone was super stoked to meet her and then watch her win!  Check out some of the pics below…

Whangamata this weekend March 5, 2010 by Kirk Beyer (Surfer)

Whangamata is looking good for this weekends leg of the Hyundai Pro longboard tour!

Spent all day today (friday) driving up, and absolute stunner of a day which bought out all the older drivers that like to look at the scenery and it made the roadworkers think “lets have roadworks on all of SH1 and SH2″. Yip thats right, good old 30km/h signs the whole way! You gotta love it ay

But when we finally rocked up to the beach the drive up became a distant memory as we saw mean surf  and checked out this sweet bach some friends of ours lent us!

After snapping my board in Sandy Bay, my shaper Roger Titcombe has been working hard to get me another one by this comp. Last night I picked it up and gave it a bit of a colour spray and slapped some Mountain Dew stickers on it! Surfed it for the first time as the sun went down tonight, so stoked with the board it is lighter and faster than all my others.. now i just gotta get used to it before my heat. Gona try get up for the dawny so off to bed I go.

Will let you fullas know how the comp goes! Chur chur

Have a Mountain Dew!! February 9, 2010 by Kirk Beyer (Surfer)

Fellow MD Ambassador Daisy Thomas and I handed hundreds of cans out to competitors and others watching! Huge congrats to Daisy for taking out the womans division!!

On a boiling hot day, there can’t be anything better than an icy cold Mountain Dew!! Just ask these guys…

Doin’ the Dew at Sandy Bay February 9, 2010 by Kirk Beyer (Surfer)

The Sunny Sandy Bay turned on the waves for the second comp of the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour.

After scoring some primo waves in Raglan last week, my wife and I drove up to Whangarei for the comp where we found some super fun waves that were much like Titahi Bay back home. It was about 2-4ft with fresh onshores to start day one of the contest off, perfect, just what im used to! I was seeded through to round 3 which was algoods until I saw round two. Taylor Jensen, World number 2 and USA champ won his heat and was in my round 3 heat… I also had two other really good surfers in my heat. At first my head spun out and I began to freak – but I went for a free surf and got my focus sorted! I came second to Taylor but was only 1 point away from him..

Heres a video of the semi’s and final. I have one wave on it, about 1min and 8seconds in. Plus here’s more about the comp…

Road Trip! February 2, 2010 by Kirk Beyer (Surfer)

On the way through Taupo we went on the Huka Falls Jet, was so mean! It was our anniversary present.

And ofcourse I jumped off every bridge I could find. It gets hot and boring driving all day…

Mount comp is officially cancelled January 23, 2010 by Kirk Beyer (Surfer)

After lengthy consideration Surfing New Zealand has had to cancel the first event of the Hyundai Pro Longboard Tour that was scheduled to run on the 2-3 January.

The Mount comp has just been officially

The event was first postponed and surfing NZ had hoped that they would be able to reschedule the event but the full calendar through the summer months has made this too difficult.

As a result of the cancellation, Hyundai have asked that we make the final event of the Tour at Port Waikato on the 26 – 27 March a six-star event.  That means the prize money will be boosted to $6,800 for the event ($1,500 for first in the open men’s division).

So I am now only going to 3 of the 4 contests, missing out on the Dunedin comp cause im at a wedding.

Get the new Kiwi Surf Mag January 14, 2010 by Kirk Beyer (Surfer)

This photo is of Lyall Bay cranking in one of the recent epic swells that I’ve been blogging about!

Silas Hansen is the photographer for Kiwisurf mag, he saw the swell on the swell map and flew down to find waves like this…

He did a photoshoot with Realsurf team riders Matt Stockman and Jeramy Buckley. I went on one of the photoshoots but my shortboarding wasn’t up to scratch for the mag hahaha! To see the photos and read the article on Lyall Bay and Realsurf go buy the mag from a book shop, check it out its awesome! It looks like this:
