KIRK BEYER – Good swell lately!

There’s been some good waves on the Wellington south coast lately, the sun is coming out and the water is warming up too!

In fact yesterday I was even considering getting rid of my booties in preparation for summer :)

I found this shot of me in Lyall Bay doing a bottom turn on Racoonprojects.co.nz you should check out their blog its got some pretty sweet surf shots from all over!

I remember this wave well, I waited out the back for it for ages… but as you can see, it was a beautiful wave that was well worth the wait!

KIRK BEYER – Waiting for the movie

You may have read in posts a couple of months ago that I was away filming a movie called Flux with a bunch of awesome Australian dudes. We scored some awesome waves around the New Zealand coast lines!

Im getting excited to see the movie which will be released in March next year! but I think I’m allowed to show these bad quality shots as a bit of a preview for ya :) gona be such a sweet movie… watch for it early next year!!

KIRK BEYER – Winter

I have turned 22 and now officially feel too old to go surfing when it’s cold!

Lately I haven’t been surfing too much, but I have been doing some fun stuff like learning how to do tow in surfing. My mate Daniel has a jet ski so a few weekends ago we went up the Kapiti coast and gave it a go.

We soon learnt that 3 people on a jetski trying to get out the back is harder than you think. After rolling it a few times, swimming after the jetski, camera and our board we managed to get the hang of it.

It’s all in the flick! So getting up behind the jetski is the easy bit… it then comes down to the driver flicking you onto the right part of the wave at the right time! The surf was only about 4ft and was a pretty mellow beach break. After about 5hours we started to get the hang of it and were getting some good waves.

The show sorta ended abruptly though when we did the most roockie mistake and put the van key on the ski while refueling… yip you guessed it, a wave came a rolled the jetski and the van key was lost. Daniel went home and bought down ametal detecter but even that couldn’t find it… classic! Lesson learned :)

Have been trying to edit the footage we got from the ski but its been a real mission, it will have to go on the list of ‘things to do’.

Looking forward to getting out in some decent size surf over the wairarapa coast sometime soon.

As always there were some guys down the beach who were going hard on the dew.. good thing too cuz we needed their help to get it back on the trailer!

KIRK BEYER – Awesome idea for when the surf’s flat

This is definately something me and the boys will try out the next sunny days when the surf’s flat!

Hilarious!!  Doin’ the Dew!!

KIRK BEYER – FLUX filming complete

Wow, what a full on 10 days!  I can’t believe how many perfect waves we scored… everywhere we went the locals would say “this is the best surf and best weather we have had a months!” – stoked even the wind and the waves obeyed!

Over the days we ended up surfing Raglan Manu bay, Matakana Island, Stent Rd, Back Beach, Waiwakio, and the side of Mt Taranaki (wetsuits in snow not a warm plan, no booties a very dumb plan)

So the filming is complete! Now its down to the editors to make us look good!

I can’t post any of the photo’s untill the movie and articles are released but I’ll be sure to put em up as soon as possible.

Cheers Mountain Dew for making the trip possible for me!

FLUX

It has begun! I drove to Auckland today and met the 7 other surfers with their 15 boards, and the 6 person film crew. We are now camped out in Raglan but mobile to head wherever the surf is best in NZ over the next 10days!!
We are filming FLUX which will be the next Christian surfers feature film – A movie about longboarding, people, and life.

Im really looking forward to it aye, will keep you guys updated with photos and info of where we will be… You could come get in the movie or just get a Dew.

Over and out :) Kirk
