Christmas in Whistler

Yo everybody, Just finished Christmas here in beautiful Whistler BC. Lots of good food and drink combined with a visit from Santa made for a fun few days.  Nothing beats shredding on a belly full of turkey.

I’ve been super busy with Snowboard Addiction recently. We just released our latest free video. Check it out below.

We’ve also got our community page up and runnin which has all the latest SA news http://www.snowboardaddiction.com/community/

Anyways, I’m gonna go grab a bite to eat and then head into town. Fire and Ice show tonight, should be sick.

Catch you all later,

Nev

Whistler: Open for Shredding!

nev-profile-clear-70-newIt’s the start of a pretty epic season over here in Whistler. The mountain opened last week and it’s actually been EPIC powder days everyday since opening. We got 140cm of snow in the last 2 days and there’s another 30-40cm forecasted for tonight. The base is already at 2 meters, SICK!

Surfing in Mexico (with pics)

nev-profile-clear-70-newOctober is a pretty slow month in the world of snowboarding so my girlfriend Bex and I packed a backpack each and headed to slum it in Mexico for a month. Our main reasons for going there are that it’s cheap and there’s good surf (the water is really warm too which is an added bonus when used to surfing NZ).

We flew into a tourist city name Puerto Vallarta which is fun for a couple of days cos they’ve got so many tourist activities. We did an ATV tour through the jungle and took a boat trip out to some snorkeling spots. It also stopped at a remote beach where we got to ride horses up a mountain to some pretty nice waterfalls.

End of NZ season & plans for 2010 (with VIDEO)

nev-profile-clear-70-new1I’ve just spent the last couple of months living out of a bag down in Wanaka all for the love of Snowboarding. It’s like a little reunion down there because the NZ snowboard industry is pretty small and everybody just hangs out, rides competes and parties for a pretty hectic couple of months. Braden Dean a pro snowboarder from Whistler, Canada came down with me this year and helped me run a Snowboard Addiction/All Star Freestyle Camp where we had a bunch of upcoming ridres from the US and helped them compete in several comps including the Burton Open.

Burton Open 2009

The Burton open finished up yesterday with Shawn White putting out the goods in the Halfpipe final. Back to back double cork 10′s is what you need to win a halfpipe comp these days. Crazy, you can check out the footage from the finals on nzsnowboard.com.

On Friday was the Slope style finals which were taken out by Canadain young gun Seb Toots. He nearly landed a 1440 which is the first 1 I’ve even seen in my life.

The whole field was packed with pros from every corner of the globe all though we still had a few NZers in the mix. Stef Z was riding in the finals for slope and NZ Mountain Dew rider Shelley Gotlieb placed 3rd in slope.

Both Friday and Saturday night were huge in Wanaka with even rock star Shawn White kickin it at the bar! Good to see.

Fun times all round, see ya down here next time.

Living without the tinternet?

What would you do without the tinternet?

Lots of movies that’s for sure. The Wanaka video easy store lets you rent week long movies for $1 on Monday night.

I’ve been living it up and boarding most days down here in Wanaka for the last month or so and the house were staying in doesn’t have the internet. At first it felt really bad but I’m getting kind of used to it now and am starting to realize that most of my emails are crap anyway. YOU DON’T NEED FACEBOOK!

One thing that has definitely been left behind is my blogs, but a friend is now visiting for the Burton Open (which starts today) and he has one of these mobile internet sticks so I’ll try get in the habit of a small blog everyday during the open. (more…)

Burton Open kicks off

Today was the first day of competition for the NZ Burton Open up at Cardies. Weather was pretty average in the morning but it cleared a little as the day went on. The Slope Style qualification heats were running all day for both men and women and practice for the halfpipe was running with a pretty heavy hitting line of the world’s best pipe riders includeing olypic medalists Danny Kass and Shawn White.

I’m was going to compete again this year but injured my shouder last week in the remarks park so I shaved a question mark into my face in support of our guys competing down here.

News from Wanaka

nev-profile-clear-70-new1What up MD crew, Nev here with more news from Wanaka. Snow has been dumping up in the high elevations with a good base so far. Snow park opens up July 4th and I am stoked to get up there opening day to check it out. With any luck we’ll get some more snow in the next couple of days.

Snowboard Addiction is going to be hosting it’s winter camp this August, so we can all cross our fingers for an epic snow season to get us all ready. For details on the camp check out the Snowboard Addiction Camps website, http://www.queststore.co.nz

I’ve been working hard on improving the overall coaching program that I have developed over the years and plan on throwing some material out here for all you MD crew exclusively. Specifically the mental aspect of snowboarding and how to continually progress your riding, breaking through your fears and barriers. Keep checking out the site and my posts for more details to follow!
