Friend of Mountain Dew Ben Stewart has been shredding it up and representing it hard for the Kiwis!

He managed to place 4^th in the TTR World Snowboard Tour halfpipe ranking!

He then headed to Mammoth, California for the Burton Pro-Test Event which he ranked 4^th

Not only did Ben score some mean placing’s in all his comps but he managed to land one of his best runs ever in practice!

SO WHAT ARE YA WAITING FOR…….GET DESIGNING!!!!!

We would like to introduce you to one of our Mountain Dew mate’s Mani Eder, pro skier from Austria who’s currently residing in NZ and taking our slopes by storm. We’ll let him tell you about what he’s been up to this season.

MANI EDER:

Well I have been skiing a lot this winter but managed to injure my back (compression fractured in my back T10) just 6 weeks ago. This meant I couldn’t compete in the ‘100% Pure NZ Winter Games.’ Which was a bit stink…….but I did manage to ride in a few other comps.

I started the NZ winter season with the ‘Electric Quarter Pipe Battle’ at Snowpark Wanaka. This was a pretty good comp for me, got the highest air and best trick on that, with a Double Flat 9!

After that I cruised on down to Dunedin to compete in the Octagon Rail Jam. I felt like I was skiing really well at this event and was getting heaps of compliments about my riding, but didn’t manage to get on the podium! Guttered…….but I guess that’s how comps go!

I was planning on competing at the ‘Big Air’ comp in Methven, but opted not to compete due to my back injury. So instead of riding I was asked to judge the event. This was a cool new experience.

Last week I headed up to Mt Ruapehu for the ‘Export 33 Extreme’ comp which was my first big mountain comp. After the 1st day I was in 6^th place, got rewarded for doing a 360 and a Rodeo 540 in my run. Day 2, I was on my way up the ratings and with good run. The final day began and I was aiming for a podium finish. I started my run but got too much speed into a 40ft. cliff drop which put my set up off for the next cliff and my skies couldn’t find grip on the ice and I fell about 70ft. to ice and got a bit winded!! I still managed to finish the event and I’m currently sitting in 17^th position in the world.

Next I’ll be competing at the ‘NZ Open Big Mt.’ from 14^th–17^th September. I hope to get a good placing at this event so I can work my way up the rankings. A top ranking will help me secure a ticket to ride in the ‘Freeride World Tour.’ My goal is to be amongst the top 10 in the world!

The crew over at ilabb are out of control! ha! crazy busy!

Check out this sweet vid from their adventures at the MX nationals, pretty cool way to document the day! Also they’re throwing down a sweet VIP party/ride day at their own personal MX set up down the line, that I’ve been invited to, so that should be fun.

I’ll be doing some filming for them and attempting to ride a bike with a motor which may end in carnage, I’ll be sure to snap some pics! Speaking of pics I’m heading out with my good buddy the wazman this arvo for a ride and am going to be lugging around my camera gear so expect a couple of riding pics in the next day or two! Blaaatt!

Stoked to say the least, we woke on the day of finals after 100km winds, it was super sunny and no trace of the winds so away we gooooooooo…

So this comp I found a little different but made do. The judges were a little harsh at times and with a slight sketch in my semis run I was in 9th postion, they take 9. Talk about cutting it fine, Stefi killed it with also making finals in 4th position.

When you’re last in quals it gives you a “nothing to lose” attitude so I banged out my first run and landed the shit out of it. I was in 1st for a while then got bumped to 3rd, here I stayed for both runs of finals. So stoked. Stefi rode super good also and had a sick run but just sketched on the last feature. She was in 7th, both of us super stoked!

So Stefi rode super well for boys as always he qualified 1st after semis, no pressure going into finals with that!!!!! He did so well just sketched his double back rodeo tho. Pretty sick riding considering he was super ill the night before with a weird bug.

So after my run and knowing my placing of 3rd, I instantly had this lady with me, can’t remember her name but she told me she now would be with me at all times until i’d done my drug testing ( ha FIS ) so after the awards, NZ flag flying, we were whisked away in a line of minis to go pee in a cup, no shit

Ok so after a press conference that know one really asked any questions ( think they were used to racers not slopestylers ) we went to the drug pee testing spot. Might I add by the way I was busting in my runs to pee, that was like 2 hours ago by now.

I get ushered into this room with all these boxes, my pee lady still with me, I got to go pee in front of the doctor lady so she makes sure i dont do anything sneaky and put other peoples pee in there? Gosh knows how you do that, It was an experience I say, very different and kinda weird but oh well…Go third and that was really all that matters!!

So yea I guess that’s the end of my pee/podium at Spain blog. I hope I opened your eyes to the weird and wonderful world of FIS comps, ha i have to go now, got to get a plane to X Games!
