The great town of Ohakune (with pics) November 11, 2009 by Shelly Gotlieb (Snowboarder)

shelly-profile-70-clear-new1So when the season ended at Mt Ruapehu this week, we decided that everyone should get together and celebrate the hard work and good times of the winter months. This also happened to be the perfect time to have a fundraiser and raise some much needed funds by having a BBQ party with lots of Mountain Dew and Export 33 and include an auction in the festivities for my travel costs for the overseas comps this coming season.

shelly-profile-70-clear-new1Last day at Turoa! The weather was sick, bluebird days all week leading up to the last weekend of 2009. We had dress up silly antics like we always do. The whole crew came out to celebrate a great season on a great mountain. Good friends, good beers and a few good bails equals a darn good time. Thanks to RAL for the fun spring park they had maintained for us to shred, even did a few backies on the jumps with the dress on…ha awesome!! Check it.

Mountain Biking October 20, 2008 by Nev Lapwood (Snowboarder)

So I’m back in Whistler, Canada now where the rain has began falling and the snowboarding starts again next month. While I was in NZ this year, my girlfriend got into mountain biking. During summer here they open up several of the ski lifts for downhill mountain biking. You you take the lift up with your bike and just ride down through a pretty rad selection of trails. We spent a couple of days in the bike park last week before it closes for the winter season. Not quite as good as snowboarding but it’s still a pretty rad sport. Definitely worthy of a few MD’s.

There’s been a bit of snow starting to fall on the upper slopes so everyone around here is definitely buzzing for the season to start. I’ve also been checking out the Ruapehu webcams and it sill looks on so if you’re hanging around the north island, make sure you get amongst some of that deep base they’re rocking.
